INCOMING! B-17 On Approach!

This just in from Oshkosh: Aluminum Overcast, EAA’s magnificent WWII B-17, will report for duty at Manassas from September 28-October 1, 2017. Mark the dates on your calendar, spread the word, and get ready to volunteer!

We were hoping to get her for the weekend of the Freedom Museum Hangar Dance (October 15, 2017), but some late-breaking news screwed that up. This year, the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing is dedicating its third annual Atlanta Warbird Weekend down in Chamblee, GA to the Tuskegee Airmen. CAF asked EAA to have Aluminum Overcast participate in that tribute event, scheduled for October 7-8, 2017. You can read about the weekend here.

Combined with other existing commitments, that early move down south meant reshaping the draft East Coast schedule – but we were not left out! She’ll be coming to us from her stop in Caldwell, NJ, and will head down to the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport for the CAF event at the end of her weekend with us. Start thinking early about how you’d get home if you get a seat on that nice, long repositioning flight …

None of the stops after September 1-4, 2017 (Cincinnati, OH) are up on the B-17 website yet, but they’ll be posted soon. If you know someone who might be interested in booking a ride, encourage them to book early to get on the first flight of each day, because those passengers get to help pull the props and spend more time on the plane than any others, since the engines have to warm up. People who book online in advance also get a discount: EAA members pay $409, instead of the on-site price of $435, and non-members pay $449, instead of $475. Flights and ground tours will be available Friday through Sunday, September 29-October 1, 2017. Our media flight will occur on Thursday, September 28, 2017.

We should receive some of our print advertising materials in time to display at upcoming Manassas Regional Airport events, hopefully including the Runway Run on April 9, 2017 and the Manassas Airshow on May 6, 2017.

Stay tuned for more information as the days progress. And get ready to join the flight!
