Program: June’s presentation by Dennis Crider will cover the Learjet Crash in Teterboro NJ which illustrates the consequences of an extremely unstable approach. We will also review some data from three ongoing investigations; the February Atlas Air 767 crash in Houston and the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines 737 max events.

Dennis Crider has been employed at the Safety Board since 1995 and currently serves as the Chief Technical Advisor for Vehicle Simulation. He is the author of the Board’s ISIM (Investigative Simulation) and KinSurf (kinematic parameter extraction) simulation tools as well as several other vehicle performance accident investigation tools and has used simulation techniques on many accident investigations such as USAir 427 and TWA 800. He has served on several committees with the goal of improving simulation fidelity and training. Prior to joining the Board he served as aerodynamic, stability and control and simulation engineer at Beech Aircraft (1979-1985), Douglas Aircraft (1985-1994), and McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (1994-1995). Dennis has developed aerodynamic build-up equations and led teams that have developed aerodynamic data reports for simulation and has developed simulations for several airplanes.

Dulles Plane Pull Sept. 14, 2019: The 2019 Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull, presented by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and United Airlines, is a full day of fun for the entire family. The day starts with the Run the Runway competition in the early morning, the Plane Pull and Kid’s Pull competitions throughout the day, and a whole lot of food, games, exhibitions, and live music in between.
